stinglikeabee: classic denny colt (giornalista)
A bit early, but by now it should be obvious there is no discernable schedule for these :D

LA Times:
Sport Goes Mainstream - brief look at last night's Elite XC heavyweight fight; the winner Kimbo Slice is a popular figure of MMA and was very nearly taken out by his Manc opponent, who seized on Slice's weakness on the ground, before snatching a controversial win with several well-aimed rapid punches

Can Yahoo Save Microsoft - it's a moot point Yahoo is floundering, but will its acquisition by Microsoft be enough for the combined forces to stave off the Google goliath from winning it all? Personally, I can see a new era in ten years where Google indeed wins: everyone has Linux on their laptop, use Google applications, and internet collaboration is more vital than ever.

Colorblind Adoptions Test Children
- As many child advocates feared when laws were changed in the 1990s to permit trans-racial adoptions of children in foster care, the practice is not working well for black children raised in white families, according to a comprehensive new study.

Saying I Don't to Gay Marriage - San Diego county is planning to allow public employees with objections to same-sex marriage to be excused from performing them.

A Lethal Limbo for Migrants - Did you know that unlike federal and state prisons, immigrant detention centers are not required to follow any healthcare standards in treating the sick? If a migrant is on medication, they may not even continue to receive treatment behind bars.

LA Weekly:
The Escape Artist: John Banville on Georges Simenon - I'm ashamed to say as a fan of noir, I've never read Simenon. In fact, I hadn't even heard of him until the LA Weekly article. Couldn't find any of his work at the local library or the bookstores, and will have to scour half.com or bookcrossing.com for a copy of the titles mentioned in the article.

Renewing the Faith: McSweeney's Goes Back to Basics, Makes Publishing Fun - Running against the firm belief print novel industry is sinking fast by publishing uniformly good titles with quirky covers.

Not Yet Dead - The Novel as a Lifeline - Fiction is not yet dead, long live fiction!
