Ah.... something about watching the BBC 1995 adaptation of Pride Prejudice (yes, that one with Colin Firth in a wet shirt) that gets me all fluttery and giggly. While reading these cookbooks don't exactly do the same thing, I'm still excited. Here's what I've bought from Amazon recently:

Vegan Express by Nava Atlas is the newest, having been released last week. It provides quick and simple recipes that are done half an hour or less. It's also very family friendly, with ingredients everyone will try (even the picky ones not thrilled with tempeh etc). What I liked about the book is the inclusion of menu suggestions, so no more guesswork on what salad or side dish goes with what main course. No one dish particularly stood out and demanded to be made, but I did make the Orzo salad for dinner because it's what I had on hand. That's the beauty of the book - recipes for things you most likely have in the pantry.

Vegan With A Vengeance by Isa Chandra Moskowitz is different in tone: it seeks to energise vegans and those thinking of the lifestyle. There are recipes yes, but also great stories about the author's political background and history. The recipes seem more suited for the young single person and their friends - pizzas, waffles. The tastes, I think, are more adventurous than of the mainstream Vegan Express. What I can't wait to try from VWAV is the tempeh bacon. Because I miss bacon, I really do.

It's kinda cool that in a month of so of going vegan (and not strict, because I tend to rebel) that I can actually see myself becoming exclusively vegan in the future. And I think with these books, that ain't so scary at all.
