-- In France, everyone is French regardless of ethnicity. In an ideal world this would mean there is no racism. In practice however, it only means it's much harder to track covert discrimination.

Something I keep seeing in reader comments from news sites: Obama is 'well-spoken'. *smacks forehead* I can understand why this is a big deal after 8 years of Bushisms, but no one says the same of McCain or Hillary. Seriously, enough of using the words 'well-spoken' to describe Obama. We all know what you really mean >:(

Date: 2008-06-23 12:18 am (UTC)But it's not really true for North Africans, including those who are second and third generation - they're still referred to as immigrants and their last names will shut them out of job opportunities.
