Comics: Manhunter #32
Kate Spencer is a federal prosecutor, as well as a cape who goes by Manhunter. In the current story arc, she's in El Paso trying to find the cousin of a friend who may have gone the way of the missing women in Ciudad Juarez (las muertas de Juarez). Having been thwarted by those with intel and running out of time, she turns to Director Bones of the Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO).
Kate's still getting stonewalled, and tries a different tactic:

b) *stupidly* He has skin?
c) That is so fucked up; did she'd even think goading him with the race card would work?
So we know Kate feels bad for saying what she did. I totally thought she deserved more than Bones's comment about the white liberals, but remembered this is how the real world is. Heaven knows I've been accused of selling out by bigots, but I've had the same kind of moment with good people who happened to have foot-in-mouth-disease at the time. And it's real refreshing to read this without being hit with the after-school special treatment.
Anyway, Manhunter = good stuff. Go and buy!
