Special thanks to the awesome people who I spent the weekend with (no, not in *that* way you pervs) for making it a joy to get away from the sick bed to hang out and laugh like a loon. You guys totally made it worth me having to climb through my window to get back into the house cuz the front door was locked. Cheers!
I'm quite frightened of what will happen this crucial week before Christmas because of the way my company's been futzing around with customer orders. Luckily I have plenty of Merlin fics to read (send more my way
bakarini!) and a few DC fics to write as well. The one thing I want to do however, is cross off an item on my flist's wishlists. Sorry, no fucklists -- I don't think you'd enjoy having a celebrity of choice in the mail. Trust me, it gets real messy with body parts and the like.
Anyhow, while I'm off hunting for more info on what people would really like why not take a gander at my very short list?
Step One
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals, or holiday_wishes) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Yeah, I'm gonna be really selfish and ask for me me me!
My Wishes
1. To spend more quality time with my LA-area LJ fiends this holiday season. Because a) you guys are awesome, b) we can do more nerdy/geeky/fandom-ish stuff, and c) I need to get away from the family. For serious. I'll bring the alcohol and snacks.
2. Someone to go to at least one LA Philharmonic concert with me next year. Please? Going to the Disney Hall alone makes me depressed (not to mention the outrageous parking fee). C'mon, Gustavo Dudamel! He's the closest the classical world has to a rock star!
3. Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Cole Porter Songbook Vol. 1 -- I have vol. 2, but none of the second-hand stores I've been to have the first CD.
4. Books. I'm joining paperbookswap.com because I hoard them like dragons hoard money. I will ready anything, dog-eared or still in its packaging, and will even trade my books for exchange. What I'd love to get in my hands is a copy of Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow -- I've been meaning to pick it up the 2 years since the Klaxons' awesome song of the same title.
5. Rec fics to me. I make no apologies for how dirty that sounds.
6. That everyone on the flist will have a safe, fun, and non-stressful holiday with friends and family :D
I could have sworn the meme was more widespread. If you haven't so, post your own list!
