Queerty's 10 Companies That Hate The Gays (via ontd_political)

I'm still on the fence about boycotts, seeing as how they're poorly thought out most of the time but damn, seeing those names on the list just makes me want to stomp on things. Even this:

A Fortune 1000 Company, Brown-Forman distributes Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Finlandia Vodkas, Herradura Tequila, Sonoma-Cutrer Wines, Fetzer Wines, Korbel Champagne, Bolla Wines, Bonterra Wines, but provides no comfort to its gay and lesbian employees, refusing even basic domestic partner benefits.

*tear* Oh well, I've still got Guinness. Yeah, I know Guinness isn't vegan ... IDK, lesser of all evils?

Oh, whew! I LOVE Goodwill, and read up on them a few years ago, and it sounds like they do a LOT of good stuff for disadvantaged people. I'm just glad I don't have to knock them off the pedestal I shoved them on. ;) We have a local WEAVE thrift store I go to a lot, too (WEAVE is a local women's shelter; they run about two local thrift stores that help generate funds for their programs).

I'll be damned if I ever go to Salvation Army again though. *grump*

Hearing that about Goodwill and local thrift stores is awesome. Whenever I hear of a company/org that takes its commitment to the community seriously it makes me want to pimp them even more. Alongside this list of 10 companies that hate the gays, I would love to see a list of inclusive companies/orgs that actively support their workers and society.

I'd always wondered why Goodwill has such a high turnover rate (I was going to my local one almost every other weekend, so I noticed), and I read up about them to make sure they weren't some sort of horrible employer. Turns out they give a lot of entry level positions to people who need them for resume builders, and THAT'S why they have high turnover. They're basically employing a lot of people other companies would probably pass on.

I thought that was pretty cool -- I feel pretty good about giving them money. And WEAVE is definitely a slam dunk. They're just awesome. :)
